Country Swing Dancing
Country Swing Dancing is a form of social dancing. It’s taken on many different names but suffice it to say it is a stationary dance that focuses more on the upper body movements than on the timing. It also requires agility, fitness, and strength for some of the more advanced moves in the dance such as lifts and aerials.
Two Step
The Two Step Dance is the most common form of Country Dancing out there. It is a progressive dance that travels around the outskirts of the dance floor in a clockwise direction. If you want to be a good country dancer then you need to learn the Two Step!
6 Step
The 6 Step which can also be known as the double shuffle(not to be mistaken as the Triple Two Step), is a progressive dance. It’s body movements are similar to those of the Two Step. It is the second most common style of dance that is played to the music at the country bars.
Cha Cha
Cha Cha is a common country dance. The nice thing with country dancing is that it incorporates classic swing, ballroom, and latin into the many styles of dance it has to offer. The Cha Cha is a very powerful type of dance with lots of body isolation movements.
Jive
The Jive in country dancing is somewhat different than what you would see in Classic Swing Dancing. This dance is taught with a single step jive pattern with the same timing as Two Step. This dance is commonly used in conjunction with the “Country Swing Dancing” Style since both have rock steps used to keep a connection with your partner. Learning Jive will help with your timing if you plan to learn “Country Swing”.
East Coast Swing
East Coast Swing is a triple step jive pattern of dance with similar timing as the 6 Step. Jive dances are stationary dances. This is a very fast paced type of dance with a swingy and rock and roll kind of feel that is seen in many movies based around the time of the 1950’s. In classic swing dancing East Coast Swing is called Jive.
West Coast Swing
West Coast Swing is a less common form of country dancing. The dance pattern timing is also similar to that of 6 Step is East Coast Swing but is generally meant for slower songs. It’s slowness also gives the look of the dance more of groovy type of feel to it.
Polka
Polka is a fast paced triple step type of dance. It requires agility and speed as well as a good physique. This dance gives the appearance of action and determination and can really give you a workout.
Waltz
Waltz is probably the oldest of the ballroom dances that are offered in country dancing. It is the most challenging to learn with it’s rise and falls and also is a nice dance to resort to when want to slow things down.
Night Club Two Step
Like Waltz, Night Club is a slow dance that emphasize a sway of the body as it you progress from side to side. Night Club Two Step like Waltz is a very romantic type of dance.
